There is hardly a room without them: chairs. At the dining table, in the waiting room, at the desk, in the restaurant, in the bedroom as a place to store clothes, in the children's room, as a side chair, as a comfortable place to sit that you never want to get up from. And the variety of materials is as diverse as their uses: made of wood, with fabric covering, made of metal, made of plastic, in bright colors or completely natural - and even transparent. While we humans originally sat on the floor, our seating culture has changed over the course of history. Sitting on chairs or chair-like structures was initially reserved for pharaohs, kings and the aristocracy. Only later did chairs find their way into other social classes and are now an integral part of our lives and culture. The chair was and is a sought-after object for designers who experiment with the function of sitting in their chair designs. Some of them are now celebrated worldwide as design classics, are re-released or are on display as originals in famous museums.
