The British brand Anglepoise describes itself as an "Iconic British Brand" and rightly so. When industrial designer George Carwardine designed the first Anglepoise lamp in 1933, he wanted to construct a versatile work lamp. He based his design on the movements of a human arm. With the help of three springs, he developed a groundbreaking balance mechanism and a unique, flexible shape. Carwadine's Anglepoise became the model for all subsequent spring-loaded lamps. To this day, the "Constant Spring" technology ensures ultimate flexibility and perfect balance. The British lamps enjoy cult status as timeless classics. The design highlights in Anglepoise history include the creations of Sir Kenneth Grange and the collaborations with British design icons Paul Smith and Margaret Howell.
